LUCKNOW: A Sunday evening is often dedicated to leisure with family and friends. It is considered the time close ones spend together updating each other on weeklong activities.
This Sunday was no different when 7th part of the TOI's Rise Up And Step Out To Vote campaign reached a prominent city mall in Gomtinagar. While some were catching up with friends over a cup of coffee, others had movie plans for the evening.
Though there were also some who were there for respite from the dusty and hot weather.
Considering the weekend, people were out in hordes at the The Wave Eastend Mall in Gomtinagar area but when TOI approached them to take a pledge to vote, they were more than eager to voice their views too.
According to philosopher and poet of ancient China Lao Tzu, 'The way to do is to be'. His philosophy seems to be holding true during this Lok Sabha elections as the majority of people believe that it is now time to take the responsibility in their hands. One of the pledges that conforms to the above maxim is to bring small changes in everyday routine. "Small changes are needed immediately in the society. We can start by asking people who chew 'pan masala' and 'paan' not to spit in public places and help in keeping the city clean," wrote Richa.
It is now the responsibility of the people not only for their country but for themselves too, as these small changes will help in painting a better picture of the country.
The call for everyone's contribution in coming out to vote these polls is loud and clear with the public expecting the next government to bring peace and prosperity in the country by keeping aside religious and caste differences. A new dawn of tactical decision-making is on the rise with people preferring to choose a right and suitable candidate for their constituency rather than going for the party as a whole.
"As responsible citizens, we must exercise our political right to vote for the right candidate. That candidate should be well qualified and a thorough performer and is also updated with all the work under progress in his constituency," said Anamika.
Meanwhile, there were others too who thought it was best to vote for a party as this will not only help them hold a candidate accountable for not taking his work seriously, the party too will be forced to take action. Mohammad Shah said, "I will vote for a party I feel can bring a stable government."
